Best Friends Shapans

Shapan is one of the most famous Kazakh national garments, which originated in Central Asia. It is a spacious long dressing gown that rich kazakhs wore in cold weather. Those robes were not gender specific, and both men and women wore them. I created a modern take on the classical Kazakh shapan. I used the traditional Kazakh ornaments for the pattern of the garment. The colours of shapans were based on my best friends’ characters and what they liked. They were also named after them.
